History
Lying on the edge of the Middle East at the doorstep to Europe, on the shores of the Mediterranean and the around the corner from Africa, Lebanon has been a commercial hub for millennia. Its entrepreneurial spirit lives strongly in its enterprising people, such as the founders of Sarkis Holding.
The foundations of the Sarkis empire began when the two brothers Raymond Sarkis and Sarkis Sarkis established an import/export business between Cyprus and Lebanon in 1978. This came at a time when the Mediterranean island, which had recently emerged from civil unrest and became a divided country, needed a lifeline of support from its neighbor.
The import/export business also responded to the needs of the strong Lebanese community that had moved to the country. The brothers founded SARKIS GROUP INTERNATIONAL in 1989, headquartered in Beirut, Lebanon. The company expanded steadily into Eastern Europe to include Romania in 1993, Belarus in 1994 and Bulgaria in 1997 . This followed expansion in the Arab world with Iraq in 2005, Libya in 2006 and Qatar in 2007. At the turn of the century the group's portfolio of sectors grew to include tobacco, food and beverage, the automotive field, real estate, luxury fashion, and industrial glass among others. After more than 25 years of success, Sarkis Group International can mark its Silver Jubilee with a strong vision for the future, one that embraces new markets, products and services through its network of companies and represented brands in several countries and continents.
